 Protective Coatings

Protective coatings are a simple way to reduce corrosion, by limiting the exposure of the metal to a corrosive environment. Paint is a very common protective coating, but tar, pitch, bitumen and plastics are also used.

Coatings are varied, but primarily fall into three categories: Architectural, Industrial, and Special Purpose.

 

A metallic coating consists of a protective layer that is corrosion resistant and can defend the surface against severe environmental conditions by modifying the properties of the material's surface.
